For some odd reason that I do not quite understand, SCOTUS has granted the Prop 8 proponents' request for a stay on gay marriages until the appeal of Judge Vaughn Walker's Proposition 8 ruling is decided. Here are the links that I use as proof for anyone who wishes to look.

This is very disappointing to learn of, and I can't imagine what that does to the people who were hoping to get married during the window of time that they were allowed to do so once again.
At least SCOTUS has agreed to make this speedy. If you call that speedy. But, I'm sure for them it is. That doesn't change the fact that it confuses me why they bothered to entertain the notion of a stay, let alone actually grant one. Considering that it's unclear whether or not these people even have standing to even file an appeal, because the state has chosen not to appeal it themselves.

Like I said, I can't imagine why SCOTUS is entertaining any of this, but at the very least I hope that it isn't just so that they can strike down Judge Vaughn Walker's decision. That's what scares me is that this all almost seems like SCOTUS wants to cooperate with the Prop 8 proponents because they have possibly already decided what they will rule before the appeal is tried.
I hope that that's just me being over-paranoid about it. I really don't want to think that that might be able to occur in our justice system so easily and blatantly. But, while I don't want to think that, I do tend to be a cynical person at heart and I wouldn't put it past SCOTUS to do that. I just don't have that much faith in people in general.
Well...here's hoping that I'm wrong!
