Think no one is listening? Think again.
Periods are nasty. They suck. They make our lives bloody messes. They fuck with our moods. They make us feel bloated. Crazy, like monsters.
Sometimes, to make myself feel better, I pretend that I'm a monster and everybody else is potential food. Then I pounce indiscriminately. It's a good way to manage the pain and the stress ... by turning things into a game.
How do you deal?

This will come as no surprise, but I like to sleep it off whenever I can.
I like to read bad books and watch bad TV.
Mostly, I just mope.

I find that just about the time I get my period, one of two things happens.
1) I get an unbelievably intense craving for chocolate. I mean, beyond anything else I've felt in my whole life. I want to drown myself in a boiling vat of it. No, I don't, sorry person who worked at the Hershey's chocolate factory and actually died that way.
2) I fall asleep. No, at the exact moment I start to bleed, I'll nod off, fall asleep, and wake up in my own drool and blood when I wake up.
Fortunately, my cycle is like clockwork and I can predict. So I come prepared. But last month, my period came five days early, and that made for a very miserable F, walking around in a high-end mall too good for feminine hygiene products, finally settling for a cardboard tampon. (Ouch! I hate those!)

My slump hits after it starts. 24 hours in, I want to do NOTHING.
I get a burst of angry energy before hand, PMS, so that keeps me going through the start. Then CRASH.

I just like to lay and be quiet and do something that doesn't require a lot of effort. Certainly not physical effort, anyway.

Is there any favorite way you have of alleviating the pain? I use Motrin. Sometimes I use a hot water bottle. Sometimes ... er, I take care of it myself, if you know what I mean!
What! -- it actually LITERALLY cancels out the cramps for me.

haha, that makes my cramps worse! o.o;
I either eat spicy foods and lay VERY still, or I go for Midol or Pamprin.

Ugh! And, even though most of my PMS occurs just before or on the first day of my period, this month it has to be wacky. I've felt like crying over things I really wouldn't feel like crying over ordinarily. I'm quite irritated with it! It's not an overwhelming urge to burst into loud, wracking sobs or anything major like that. It's just a desire to, over "little" things, shed a few tears or so. Either way, I still hate it, though. ><

I usually go for Advil. Motrin never seemed to do anything special, and a friend swears by Pamprin, but no far it's not doing me much good. And it is to my great sorrow that a little self-indulgence does nothing to relieve the cramps. I definitely get the urge about two days before.

Advil doesn't even touch my regular aches and pains when I get them. It apparently doesn't even TRY when it comes to my cramps. -_-; I wish that it did, because for some reason menstrual medications are priced so freaking high. It's ridiculous! I've been using Midol recently. However, I'm hoping that soon my Wal-Mart will begin to carry Excedrin Menstrual. I use Excedrin Migraine for headaches and it knocks 'em outta the park like it's Babe Ruth and my headaches are the baseball. And I use Excedrin Extra Strength for regular aches and pains (i get back problems sometimes) and it takes care of those fast and easy. So, I'm hoping that Excedrin Menstrual will do the same for menstrual issues. If only my Wal-Mart would stock it! ><

Bah to Motrin! Useless! And you can take three, fuck the directions. Haha, way to be responsible, F. xP Hahahahahahaha, I do take three when it's really bad. I know there are all sorts of reasons not to, but sometimes that's all that works. I'll start with three, and then only follow up with two at a time. It just gives it a sharp kick.

So far I haven't had to abuse directions on what I take of the things that actually work. Advil provides zero relief for any of my pains. Whether it's cramps, headaches, or back issues. Motrin doesn'treally help, either. Which is why I stick with Excedrin. But, that's just me. Excedrin (if I remember right) also has caffeine in it, so if someone is trying to stay away from caffeine for any reason that probably would NOT be the best thing to take.

Oosh, I took Excedrin once when I had an awful migraine (it came with the period). I took it around 5 in the evening and didn't sleep until 8am. I am very sensitive to caffeine.
All this 'which pain reliever works best' stuff is so subjective. They definitely work differently for different people.
One thing I will say with certainty is that Tylenol might as well be a sugar pill.
